Just about a week back, Apple had officially announced that the pre-orders for the iPhone 5 touched the 2 million mark in just 24 hours.
And today the Cupertino based company has announced that the sixth generation of iPhone which has lately been in controversy over the bad state of the Maps App and ‘Snuffgate’ sold 5 million units over the opening weekend.
The Apple iPhone 5 went on sale in nine select markets around the world including US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK on September 21 and until September 23 Apple is said to have sold 5 million units of the smartphone.
The numbers are indeed great and are bound to increase significantly as the week progresses and the device goes on sale in more 22 countries on September 28 and will reach more than 100 countries by the year end.
Apple also declared that iOS 6 which was made available back on September 19 is already installed on over 100 million devices worldwide.
