There is a reason that the Chinese market is the next big market for the smartphone industry – smartphones sell like hot pies there! Xiaomi has sold 100,000 Xiaomi Redmi Note units in China in the space of just 34 minutes. The company’s vigorous strategy of providing budget phones with attractive features, accompanied by an attractive price tag pays off every time, it seems.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note sells for 999 Yuan (around Rs. 10,000) in China and offers features such as a 5.5-inch 720p display, a 1.7-GHz octa-core MediaTek processor, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory. This handset, despite its price tag, has scored 28,000 on AnTuTu Benchmark test showing that it means business.
Other features of the handset include a 13-megapixel rear snapper and 3200 mAh battery.
Xiaomi is not new to selling out its smartphones. It created a record last year by selling 150,000 Hongmi smartphones in 13 minutes. Not just that, even HTC has sold 50,000 Desire 816 phablets in 10 minutes in China, making the Chinese market every smartphone maker’s fantasy come true.
Xiaomi is on its way to India, so expect these fireworks happening here too, soon!
