Research in Motion (RIM), the company behind BlackBerry devices has announced that it will be giving its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to Indian app developers for free. All this is to help developers in porting Android apps to run over BlackBerry Playbook.

Being able to run Android apps over the PlayBook is one of the most awaited feature over PlayBook as it’ll open up new opportunity for both RIM and developers and well also for users as the BlackBerry App World has not many apps like that of the Android Market.

"RIM will be providing free BlackBerry PlayBooks to developers in India this month which will help them in porting and testing of the applications on the BB Platform and in return help us add more Android based applications to the list", said Annie Mathew, head of alliances and developer relation at RIM in India to Mobile Indian.

Developers, who wish to participate in this campaign, will have to register at the BlackBerry App World and port their apps and submit it to BlackBerry's App World between February 2 and February 13 thus making them eligible for a 16 GB PlayBook.

Till then we are awaiting the much needed OS 2.0 upgrade for the PlayBook which will be out later this month.
