Vodafone launches ultra-low cost Mobile Phone at Rs.799 in India

With the launch of this mobile phone, Vodafone aims to increase mobile technology accessibility for millions in India.

To maximize the availability of VF 150 among the large and isolated rural populations, Vodafone will provide an extensive logistics infrastructure, reaching deep rural segments where mobile penetration has remained low. Over the next few days, the device will become available across the country.

At the price point of VF 150, many more people will become part of the connected world. We will continue to facilitate consumer empowerment through such initiatives.”

Vodafone has been able to significantly reduce manufacturing costs by focusing on a custom-built feature set and packaging design – without any compromise to user experience, quality or safety. VF 150 comes with one year handset replacement warranty and is priced at Rs.799 (price includes 4% VAT; this price could vary in a few states owing to different tax structures). VF 150 will enable customers to use voice and text based services.

Vodafone (Karnataka) launches new GPRS Packs for Prepaid Customers

Rs. 16 GPRS Pack comes with 3 days validity, it provides free data usage upto 200 MB. Rs. 95 GPRS Pack comes with a month's validity, it provides free data usage upto 2GB. After utilisation of free data a charge of 10p/10kb is applicable.

To activate GPRS, You need to do an e-top with Rs 95 or Rs 16 or sms ACT GPRS to 144 (toll-free). You can also call 121 (toll-free) from  your Vodafone mobile phone for more details.

Vodafone (Kolkata) launches unlimited GPRS Packs

These Bonus Cards offer unlimited mobile internet browsing for all Vodafone prepaid customers and are available in two denominations of Rs 21 and Rs 251 respectively. Vodafone Customers can recharge with Rs 21 Bonus Card and avail unlimited mobile internet usage for 2 days whereas the Rs 251 Bonus Card offers 30 days of unlimited mobile internet usage.

With this service customers can enjoy a host of services, including watching free internet video clips, checking email on mobile, accessing social networking sites such as Orkut and Facebook, Internet search and lots more.

Its good news for Vodafone users in Kolkata. But Aircel still offers the cheapest GPRS Pack. I have neither used Vodafone GPRS nor Aircel so can't comment on the speeds. Vodafone launches Special VAS to Celebrate Bengali New Year

This year, Vodafone has launched the ‘Poila Baisakh’ voice portal which has a bouquet offering caller tunes, ring tones, recipes of popular Bengali cuisines, mobile greetings, song dedications and trivia around the New Year. Vodafone customers can access these products by dialing priced at Rs 6 per minute.

In addition a ‘Poila Baisakh’ WAP portal has been introduced for Vodafone customers. The portal comprises animated wall papers based on the theme of the Bengali New Year. Customers can avail the content by messaging to toll free from their GPRS enabled phones. The response SMS has a link which can be accessed through Vodafone Live.

On this occasion, Vodafone customers can also send personalized pictures by messaging to 53636 priced at Rs 3 per SMS.

Vodafone Essar rings in 100 million subscribers in India

Vodafone Essar has announced that it has crossed the landmark of 100 million subscribers in India. With this achievement, Vodafone Essar becomes world’s 5th operator with 100 million customers in a single country. Vodafone has also increased its market share to strengthen its position as India’s second largest operator in terms of revenue.

“This is a significant achievement for us and reflects the trust customers have bestowed on the company,” said Marten Pieters, Managing Director and CEO, Vodafone Essar, “In the past three years, we have invested over Rs. 20,000 crores to expand our operations to service customers in India. We will utilize our global and Indian experience to deliver the best products and services to our customers.”

Starting with about 28 million subscribers across 16 circles in May 2007, Vodafone Essar today has 100 million customers and its footprint has extended to all the 23 circles in the country. This journey is a testimony of Vodafone’s success in a highly competitive and price sensitive market. Around 60% of the Company’s customer additions now come from upcountry areas. With a distribution reach of about 1.2 million outlets, Vodafone is well-geared to serve customers in the remotest corners of India.

“In addition to voice and text, Vodafone will also work on investing in platforms that will enable the delivery of internet and data services to a large part of the country. Vodafone will also continue to increase investments in new business areas like enterprise and carriers business,” Mr. Pieters added.

Earlier this 100 million subscribers milestone was achieved by Airtel and Reliance.

Vodafone's ZooZoo Bags Awards at Asia Marketing Effectiveness Festival
