SEMT11i
Sony Ericsson is rumoured to be working on releasing one more Android handset which has been codenamed MT11i and also MT11a, which will probably be a US variant. The information has been revealed from a user agent profile which also tells us some of its specs.

The handsets will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, FWVGA screens with resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, probably full touch-screen phones with no hardware QWERTY keyboard, a single-core Cortex A8 processor which can range anything from 600MHz to 1GHz. Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro coming to India soon?

sony-ericsson-xperia-mini-proSony Ericsson had announced the Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro a few months ago. The handsets were said to launch in August and it seems that the launch date will be a bit early. Flipkart is selling the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro and it is available at pre-order.

The Android handset has been missing from the news for quite some time, but finally some development. The handset is priced at Rs. 15,099/- which seems pretty decent for the features it delivers including a 1GHz processor, Android Gingerbread, 5MP camera with 720p video, full-QWERTY keyboard, etc. So this pre-order confirms one thing, Sony Ericsson will be launching the handset anytime in this week or the next.

We’ll keep you posted if there is any official announcement related to the device.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Active is truly water-proof

Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-Active-Specs
Sony Ericsson had recently announced a smartphone for people who are active, mostly sports oriented. The Xperia Active has a nice sporty look and the best part, it is water-proof. The handset will be a the first of a kind Android smartphone that can take on water and dust and the touch-screen has the ability to respond to wet fingers.
But companies claim a lot these days and their proclamations remain limited to their words only. So is it same with the Active ? Well, Sony Ericsson is faithful on this one.

Here is a video by Se-First showing the Active submerged completely in a lake. Sony Ericsson claims that the phone can handle 30 minutes under water up to 1m without any damage.

Sony Ericsson suffer loss in Q2, Tsunami disaster blamed

sony-ericsson-logoSony Ericsson has been dwindling down over the years and that is clearly visible through its Q2 results of 2011. The company says that the major reason for the loss has been the disaster that hit Japan this year. The total loss for the quarter accounted of €50 million.

Other highlights of the Q2 included, smartphones accounting for more than 70% of the total sales and Android-based Xperia handsets volumed up 150% year-on-year.

“Sony Ericsson’s second quarter profitability was affected by the March 11 earthquake in Japan. We estimate that the impact of earthquake-related supply chain constraints on our portfolio was close to 1.5 million units, with most of the effect in the early part of the quarter,” said Sony Ericsson President and CEO Bert Nordberg in a statement. “Our shift to Android-based smartphones continues with smartphone sales accounting for more than 70 percent of our total sales during the quarter. We have shipped more than 16 million Xperia smartphones to date. We have introduced eight new Xperia smartphones this year and we continue to see strong consumer and operator demand across the Xperia smartphone portfolio.”

Here are the 2011 Q2 results compared to 2011 Q1 and 2010 Q2 results.

Sony Ericsson ST18i images leaked

Xperia_st18i_1
Images of a new Sony Ericsson android smartphone, codenamed ST18i have leaked to the web. This new devices looks to be a midrange smartphone with a touch screen (probably somewhere between 3.2” and 3.7”), 8MP camera with  LED flash and is powered by ARM Cortex A8 processor. The design seems to be very similar to SE Xperia Mini’s but with a bigger display which means that this phone may bridge the gap between Xperia Mini and Xperia Neo.
