Android 2.3 Gingerbread coming to Xperia X10, but not for everyone

sony-android
Sony Ericsson is about to launch its new line of Xperia smart phones, now there is an update. The Xperia X10 was supposedly not to get any updates. But now it seems that Sony Ericsson has changed its mind. There will be a 2.3.3 Gingerbread update available later in Q2 or early Q3. The update has apparently been possible because of the new Xperia line-up, as the development of these phones is quite similar with the X10. But before you get your X10s ready to update, hold on. The update might not be available to everyone after all.

According to the Sony Ericsson blog: “We plan to bring an upgrade to Android Gingerbread for the Xperia X10 to generic trade kits end Q2 / early Q3 this year. We have heard your requests all along but until today have not been able to confirm this. The great work on our 2011 products Xperia PLAY, Xperia arc and Xperia  neo actually has enabled us to start the work in a special project bringing Gingerbread to the Xperia X10.”

So in short, the update might be available only for unbranded X10s, and as for branded ones, all of them might not receive the update. The best chance to receive the update seems to be if you have an unbranded device, or have rooted and ROMed. So update might be available sometime in late Q2 or early Q3 for unbranded handsets, and will be installed via PC rather than OTA (Over the Air).

Sony Ericsson to launch Android based CDMA Xperia series smartphones in USA

sony-ericsson-logo1
With the new line up for the Xperia phones on its way, Sony Ericsson is planning to launch CDMA versions of them as well. This will be the first time the company is going into CDMA phones.  They recently had a major change in their strategy for the US. They have been providing flip, music, and camera phones to AT&T and T-Mobile; like T-Mobile's successful TM506. But now future feature phones are doubtful as Sony Ericsson is switching to an all-Android line-up for all the US carriers.
Stephen Sneeden, marketing manager, said, “You could see Xperia smart phones arrive on any US carrier. We learned a few lessons on what's important (from the experience with earlier Android phones) Android is so compelling in itself, it's important to be first, fresh out of the oven." He also added, "We might provide affordable tier Android phones.”

The first phone of Sony Ericsson's new strategy, the Xperia Play’s European model's custom Timescape UI has been traded out for a stock Android look. And like all Sony Ericsson phones this year, it's running the latest Gingerbread OS, which other mobile-phone firms haven't yet installed on many phones.

Also Sony Ericsson is planning for LTE (Long term Evolution) smart phones but with no specific dates. "We haven't announced LTE yet, but it's definitely in our roadmap," said Sneeden

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play comes alive with advertisement

Sony-Ericsson-XPERIA-Play
Seems like Sony Ericsson have gone bloody insane for their upcoming gaming phone, the Xperia Play. The company recently launched an ad in which the android droid gets thumbs from a human being stitched onto its hands. Pretty gross is everyone’s reaction; however it seems quite an idea. The ad is named “The Donor” and shows a guy waking up and reporting his lost thumbs to the police. The Xperia Play is expected to be released in Spain in April, but they are rumours as well.

Sony Ericsson’s Windows phone mystery

Sony-ericsson-450x450
There have been rumours all around that Sony Ericsson have a Windows powered phone up their sleeves. Another rumour buzzing is that it was a formerly cancelled prototype. Whatever the case may be, the phone looks like a slim Xperia series with a slider QWERTY keyboard and Windows Mobile 7 onboard. Other details or should we say rumours say that it packs a 4-inch capacitive screen like the Xperia X10 and a 1Ghz processor. Oh and the code name, well yes this sexy phone has a sexy code name, Jolie.
