Puneet Jain 05 November 2009 Samsung today announced that sales of the Samsung Star have surpassed 10 million units, just six months after its release. The Star (S5230), launched in May, reached this sales milestone faster than any other mobile phone in Samsung’s history.By becoming the sixth Samsung mobile phone to sell 10 million units earlier this month, the Star eclipsed the record of the E250, a classic slider, which took 10 months from its release in November 2006 to reach the 10 million unit landmark. The Star hit the 5-million unit mark in just four months, selling 700,000 units in May and 900,000 units in June, before jumping to 1.6 million and 1.7 million units in July and August respectively. Monthly sales surpassed 2 million units in September and October. | |

Samsung has launched Omnia II–GT I8000 phone in the Indian market. Samsung Omnia II is a full – touch screen phone. It comes with a price tag of Rs. 28,990. Samsung Omnia II is the 12th touch screen phone that the Samsung has launched in the market. Based on the Windows 6.1 platform Samsung Omnia II allows users to view and edit various MS-office documents like an MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint all displayed in a 3.7” bright AMOLED full touch screen. Samsung has launched the world’s first OMH (Open Market Handset) phone, Mpower 699, in the Indian market in cooperation with Qualcomm. The OMH technology, available on the CDMA platform, gives mobile customers the flexibility to buy a CDMA handset and SIM cards from various CDMA operators of their choice. Samsung’s Mpower 699 is the world’s first CDMA phone to offer this flexibility to customers since the network settings for the CDMA connection have shifted from the phone to the OMH SIM card.
