Reliance plans various contest for ICC Champions Trophy

These initiatives were announced during the Reliance Mobile Trophy Preview for the ICC Champions Trophy. This marked the beginning of Reliance Mobile’s Trophy Preview in India before the tournament commences in South Africa on September 22nd, 2009. The ICC Champions Trophy will be handed over to the winning team of the 2009 edition of the tournament.

Leveraging its association with ICC to benefit customers, Reliance Mobile is planning to organize interactive contests on R-World as part of its ICC Champions Trophy South Africa 2009 initiative. The company plans to organize this contest across various platforms of R-World including CRBT, Voice Portal, SMS etc. Those wishing to participate in this unique contest will have the freedom to choose their platform as per their preference & ease of using a platform. The contest will be launched across both GSM and CDMA networks.
For instance, on Voice Portal, a subscriber will be able to dial a particular multimodal number, subscribe to the Cricket Score subscription services post which he will have to answer a skill- based question. Select winners of the contest could win a trip to South Africa.

Moreover, Reliance Mobile will go Live with all ICC Champions Trophy, South Africa 2009 matches through its R-World VAS platform. Reliance Mobile subscribers will be able to catch all the excitement of this tournament on their handsets. Reliance Mobile will also provide subscribers an option to have match scores and expert commentary on the matches as their caller-tune.

Reliance to offer Mobile Conferencing Service at Rs. 99

reliance mobile call conferencingReliance Communications has tied-up with US-based Kodiak Networks to provide nationwide Mobile Conferencing Service on both its CDMA and GSM networks. Reliance Communications’ mobile conferencing service enables it’s customers to establish a conference call amongst a group of 9 contacts from the phone address book with a single click. While conferencing is an old established product, this service does not need manual intervention for the conference to be set up. The company plans to offer this service for as low as Rs 99/month. The service will be accessible through R-World and supported by all handset clients including Blackberry, BREW, Java, Symbian and Windows Mobile Operating System with over-the-air download ability.

The Mobile Instant Conferencing service will provide immediate dial-out mobile conferencing, including one-touch mobile call origination from the handset contact list. Business colleagues, consumers and social networking groups can instantly join a conference call from any combination of wireless, or wireline phones, local or long distance.

The Mobile Scheduled Conferencing will allow users to schedule conference calls directly from their mobile handset. Convenient auto-SMS reminders are sent to attendees at the conference start time. Participants can join or rejoin the conference with a single click and are instantly auto-authenticated without personal identification numbers (PIN). All participants can see who is on the conference call.

Reliance plans India's first Literary Cell Novel "Deaf Heaven"

Reliance Communications is launching India’s first cell novel “Deaf Heaven”. Written by National Award winning writer, Pinki Virani, the entire novel will be condensed into a pack of 90 SMSes. RCOM will make this novel available through a sms subscription pack especially created for this purpose. Those subscribing to the special pack of “Deaf Heaven” will receive the entire novel through a series of SMSes spread over a period of 30 days. Everyday, the subscriber will get to read the novel through 3 SMSes.

The literary cell novel planned by RCOM is a first such offering by any telecom operator in India. RCOM plans to launch the cell novel in early August.

Reliance also plans to convert “Deaf Heaven” into an Adult audio mobile book. The Audio book will be available on a Multimodal number. The company is currently working with the national award winning author to develop prompts for the Audio novel.

Globally, cell novels are a popular strategy adopted by mobile operators to acquire subscriber base especially in the 25 year plus age bracket. Mobile phone novels called keitai shousetsu in Japanese, were the first literary genre to emerge from the cellular age via text messaging. Over the years, mobile phone novels have trickled their way to a worldwide popularity across all subjects.

Reliance will offer Deaf Heaven cell novel through an innovative SMS pack priced at Rs 30/- only. The Adult audio mobile book will also be offered at a subscription price.

We Say : Its the kind of concept which may not be preferred by many people. Many readers may not perfer reading interesting novel in parts (that too in 30 days). These is what personally I think.

Reliance Communications ties up with 3rd Space

reliance-3rdspaceReliance Communications has partnered with UK based mobile marketing company, 3rd Space Services Limited, to launch advertising funded videos on its Reliance Mobile platform. Under the agreement 3rd Space will supply mobile video content to Reliance Communications. It will also offer premium content such as ”Who wants to be a Millionaire”, Bollywood Songs and Films alongside the world’s leading sporting content, available on every data enabled handset within the Reliance network.

Customers will have access to the free content in exchange for watching an advert embedded within the video.

Reliance Mobile to offer BBC World Service Radio Live on R-World

Reliance Mobile and BBC World Service have announced a strategic alliance to offer Live Audio service through Reliance’s R-World VAS platform. This is the first such international offering to be launched by an Indian telecom company.

The new partnership, aggregated by Worldwide Records, will see BBC World Service content available Live across India through the medium of mobile phones.  Reliance subscribers will now be able to listen to BBC World Service news in a choice of five different languages, seven days a week.

BBC World Service will offer news in English, which will switch to Hindi at 6.30am, 8.00am, 7.30pm and 10.30 pm; Tamil, at 09.15pm; Urdu, at 7.00am, 8.30 pm and 11.00pm, and Bangla, at 5.00 am, 6.00 am and 6.00pm.

Commenting on its partnership with BBC World Service, Mr Krishna Durbha, Head - Business & Marketing, Value Added Services at Reliance Communications, said: “Radio is a very popular medium in rural India. Through this service we wanted to offer same experience to our customers in their preferred language. Introduction of this service is part of our strategy to provide innovative services in local languages.”

Reliance unveils Yuva Pack

Reliance Communications (Karnataka) today launched “Yuva Pack” a package full of multiple benefits including 100 minutes of STD valid for 30 days and 100 SMS everyday for 90 days.  This pack priced at Rs. 201 is being targeted at the large student community in Karnataka. Packaged according to the needs and usage pattern of the youth, this pack provides a talk time of Rs 20 besides other benefits in a single offering.  ‘Yuva Pack’ can be loaded after subscribing to the GSM service with an entry of Rs 49.
The tariffs on this pack is pegged at 30 Paise/min for Reliance to Reliance local calls,  60 Paise/min for Reliance to other local calls  and Re. 1/min for all STD calls.  In addition, night calling (11pm to 6am) to Reliance Mobile is pegged at 5 Paise/min. The tariffs are valid for 90 days on availing this offer. ‘Yuva Pack’ is a limited period offer available till 30th of June 2009.

Reliance Mobile in revenue sharing pact with US-based EA Mobile

Reliance Mobile has signed a long term revenue sharing deal with US-based EA Mobile. According to the agreement, EA Mobile will offer its award-wining games to Reliance for its GSM VAS. One of the EA Mobile games being currently launched on Reliance Mobile is based on the new Hollywood movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The game can be accessed on the company’s VAS platform R-World.

The unique mobile game based on the Hollywood franchisee will enable the player to bravely don on the role of Wolverine in this action-packed adventure game inspired by the film where Wolverine, sets out to avenge his girlfriend’s death by waging war against his enemies. Escaping from Stryker’s Weapon X laboratory, battling against an army of soldiers, and facing legendary mutant fighters including the Blob and Victor Creed!  Wolverine uses healing powers and razor-sharp claws to defeat those who stand in the way on the path to retribution.

The launch of the Wolverine mobile game on Reliance Mobile coincides the release of the film in India. X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be released across the country on Friday June 19, 2009.


The Wolverine game on Reliance Mobile has been developed by the Indian arm of US-based EA Mobile. EA Mobile owns the license to develop and distribute award-winning games such as Tetris, Bejeweled, The Sims, and Need For Speed.

Reliance Mobile in alliance with Aaj Tak to offer video news alerts

Reliance Mobile has tied-up with Aaj Tak to launch MMS News Subscription Service to its subscribers. According to this tie-up, a Reliance user will be able to access news related to National, International, Business, Sports, Entertainment happenings on their handset. The news alerts will be in video format sent to the subscriber as MMS clips. Reliance Mobile will send these MMS alerts twice everyday.

Reliance Mobile is offering the Aaj Tak MMS News Alert service on a 30-day subscription module. Customers wishing to avail the service can subscribe to it for Rs 30/month. Reliance Mobile is offering this service to both its prepaid as well as post-paid customers across both CDMA and GSM networks.

Commenting on the new service, Mr Krishna Durba, Head - VAS, Reliance Communications said, "We have seen large demand for news on the move. Subscribers want to be alerted on the breaking news. This service will ensure excellent news coverage with multimedia pictures & video clips. "

In case of Post-paid Users, the subscription charges will be added to mobile user's monthly bills. For Prepaid Users, the subscription charges will be deducted immediately.

Reliance customers can subscribe to this service by sending a SMS "MSub N" to 52424.

The banner advertising which reliance is using for this campaign on various news site such as Yahoo, Indiatimes, IBNLive & NDTV and is on the similar line of strategy deployed by Nokia's email campaign.

The mobile operator would be targeting a reach of 45-55 per cent of the Total online audience within a month period by serving some 250 million ad impressions across websites and Ad networks.

The reach is huge and could do wonders for newly launched Reliance GSM looking at the Ad penetration and interactivity levels.


Reliance Mobile offers BlackBerry Service for Rs. 299 per month

Reliance Mobile has  introduced the ‘Reliance E-Lite’ plan for BlackBerry smartphone users. With the ‘Reliance E-Lite’ plan, users can have unlimited access to email and instant messaging (IM) on their BlackBerry smartphones for just Rs. 299 per month.

The Reliance E-Lite service plan offers unlimited access to the industry's leading email and instant messaging features, allowing Reliance customers to access up to 10 supported POP3/IMAP email accounts (including most popular ISP email accounts such as Yahoo!
