Here we go again; it’s back to the patent infringing business as Samsung has filed preliminary injunction motions in the Tokyo District Court, Japan and in the New South Wales Registry, Australia asking the courts to stop the sale of Apple’s iPhone 4S in both countries.
The injunction filed in Japan points out the infringements on one HSPA standard-related patent and three UI patents, which are violating Samsung's intellectual property. The preliminary injunction request in Australia cites three patent infringements related to wireless telecommunications standards including WCDMA and HSPA.
Samsung has also appealed the Australian court's decision which was given on October 13 to grant a preliminary injunction over the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the company is also trying to file an injunction order to ban the sales of iPhone 4 and iPad 2 in Japan.
It seems like this cross-firing between the two companies is never going to stop and both the companies are just looking for patent infringements and other silly reasons just keep a pressure on each other.

The Samsung Galaxy S, the one that started it all, has reached almost 20 million sales, making it the highest-selling mobile device in Samsung’s portfolio to date and another record-breaker for the company and the mobile market.

This is in addition to the continued sales momentum behind GALAXY S, which we launched at Mobile World Congress 2010 as continues to be a run-away success with consumers,” said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business.

BSNL is planning to surrender its Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) spectrum in 17 circles and hopes to get back a refund of Rs 8,313.80 crores. BSNL incurred a loss of over Rs 6,000 crore for 2010-11 because of high staff cost and payments made for acquiring 3G and BWA spectrum.
The company had paid over Rs 8,500 crore to the Government as spectrum charges while bidding for the BWA auction, and was allotted non-standardised band of BWA spectrum for 21 circles. Now BSNL is said to have written a letter to the Department of Telecom (DoT) seeking to return BWA spectrum in 17 circles and wants to certain circles including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana service areas.
According to sources, the letter stated that “BSNL was allotted non-standardised band of BWA and can't be put in use, so the company wants to return. The department will now take a look and may consider an option to re-auction the spectrum also if possible.”
