Samsung Galaxy Nexus reaching Europe on November 17

The first device running on Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be available in Europe from November 17 and this comes straight from Samsung. At the Samsung Note World tour, Samsung has confirmed the availability of Galaxy Nexus.

The list of countries with service providers which will carry the device is as below:

• Germany: Vodafone, O2, SIM-free

Yahoo Maps is powered by Nokia

YES! You read it right. Yahoo Maps is now actually powered by Nokia. Last year Nokia and Yahoo joined hands to leverage each other in email, instant messaging, maps and navigation services. Starting with users living in the US and in Canada, Yahoo will now make the switch to using the Nokia Maps platform, with a gradual rollout across the globe.

iPad 3’s display, a cause of worry for Apple and manufacturers

So after the launch of iPhone 4S, the next thing on Apple’s cards is the iPad 3. And as we all know that Apple tries to improve its product with every generation, this time Apple wants to improve the display of the iPad which is becoming a cause of worry for the display manufacturers like LG and Samsung. According to rumours, the reason behind this is that Apple wants a Retina Display-like resolution in its iPad 3.

According to Apple, a Retina Display would mean having “pixel density is so high your eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels.” On the iPhone 4S, that translates to a 960×640, 3.5″ display which sports 326 pixels per inch (PPI), which is really dense. And according to sources, the closest that iPad display can get is 2048x1536 resolution display which is a PPI of 264, twice the 132 PPI on the iPad 2. The display is also expected to have a brightness of 550nits. The other concern for Apple is that, whether manufacturers will be able to shell out the displays at the quantity that Apple requires, because the demand is much higher.

As of now, we have to wait and see how Apple and the manufacturers deal and develop the display screens.

Research In Motion has partnered with Porsche Design and announced the new Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone from BlackBerry. The handset is designed by Porsche Design and is the company’s first smartphone. The handset was leaked way back and we thought it was probably a fake, but it’s now an official device.

Whitened MeeGo: The Nokia N9 to be available in white colour

Nokia has announced the white version of the Nokia N9. It will be latest addition to the current trio-colours that are available for the handset.

Motorola Droid 4 on its way?

It was just a few months back that we saw the release of Motorola Droid 3 and now it seems that Motorola is ready the with Droid 4. The device is said to be ultra-thin like Droid RAZR with an addition of a slideout keyboard. The Droid 4 is said to bring in LTE radio onboard which was probably the only thing missing in the previous Droid.

BSNL Chennai revises price of BlackBerry devices

BSNL on the occasion of Diwali has decided to revise the price of the BlackBerry devices that it sells for its subscribers in Chennai as Diwali gift. The revision of prices is applicable on BlackBerry 8700G, 8310, 8900, 9700 and 8520.

The new prices are EXCLUDING VAT and are as below:

TRAI imposes 5 paisa promotional SMS charge and specifies more categories under Transactional Messages

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued “The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference (Seventh Amendment) Regulations, 2011”. It has also issued a Direction specifying certain categories of SMS as Transactional messages.

The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010 which was launched on 1st December 2010 came into force from 27th September 2011. The regulations included specific number of deterrent measures to stop commercial SMSs to telecom consumers who have registered themselves with the National Customer Preference Register. Now in order to further daunt the sending of promotional SMSs, the Authority has now prescribed a promotional SMS charge of 5paisa payable by an Originating Access Provider to the Terminating Access Provider for each promotional SMS sent by a registered telemarketer from the network of the Originating Access Provider to the network of the Terminating Access Provider.

TRAI has also allowed Transactional message sending entities to send Transactional messages without registering as telemarketer with TRAI. The Authority has also mandated that these entities will have to enter into a standard agreement with their Access providers for obtaining any telecom resources and has exempted the transactional message sending entities from the limit of 100 SMS per day.

The Authority has included the following categories of SMSs in the definition of transactional message:-

(i) Information sent by e-commerce agencies in response to ecommerce transactions made by their customers;
(ii) Information sent by a company or a firm or depository participant registered with Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) or Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA) or Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) or National Commodity & Derivative Exchange Ltd. (NCDEX) or Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd. (MCX) to its clients pertaining to the account of the client;
(iii) Information sent by a registered company to its employees or agents or to its customers pertaining to services or goods to be delivered to such customers

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Curve 9360 get certified by MasterCard Worldwide as PayPass-approved devices

Research In Motion has announced that its BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 smart phones have become the first SIM-based NFC handsets to receive MasterCard PayPass certification. The manufacturer will now be able to turn its new smartphones into mobile wallets and take full advantage of the NFC payments services. RIM said its smartphones were granted the certification after they met the functionality, interoperability and security requirements set by MasterCard. France Telecom-Orange has become one of the first carriers to give RIM and its devices its support.

With this, any bank around the world offering the MasterCard PayPass technology can now deploy PayPass accounts directly to the SIM card on both smartphones, enabling owners to make contactless mobile purchases wherever PayPass is accepted.
