Nokia introduces bendable handsets through its Kinetic Concept devices

Yesterday we posted that Samsung will be launching handsets with flexible display next year. Well, now we have Nokia showcasing the same concept with a whole new concept onboard. The Nokia Kinetic Concept is something new altogether by bringing in bending gestures that you can use to control your handset.
You can just bend-in, bend-out, twist and turn your bendable handset to control it. It is a very innovative way to control your device, suppose the weather is frigid and you are wearing gloves and you need to make a phone call, now a touchscreen and gloves don’t go well together, but this concept might ease the use even if you are wearing boxing gloves. Now of course touchscreens are here to stay, but this concept on top of the touchscreen concept can be one the biggest innovations in the mobile world.

New Lenovo Windows Phone is out in the wild

Lenovo might just be launching their very own Windows Phone powered handset as some pictures of the handset were leaked. There hasn’t been a word about Lenovo being a part of the Microsoft family, but the leaks just might change that.
The handset is said to be called the Lenovo S2 and features a 1 GHz processor, 4GB of internal memory and also a front facing camera. The handset might be headed for China but right now we cannot confirm anything about the device.
A number of handset manufacturers have started to show interest in the new WP platform and it seems that more handsets are going to arrive as the new Mango update has intrigued a lot of developers and users.

Samsung Electronics has said that they are planning to launch mobile phones with flexible displays next year and will gradually move onto tablets and other portable devices. The company should get a good response as the innovative technology just might be a good seller.
Samsung has already dominated the smartphone world by leading the number of smartphones sold in Q3 2011 beating Apple. However it hasn’t done much in the feature phone and basic handset category which can be improved by introducing with such interesting new concepts.
"The flexible display, we are looking to introduce sometime in 2012, hopefully the earlier part. The application probably will start from the handset side," said spokesman Robert Yi.
Samsung had earlier showed off its flexible OLED displays inside rigid cases that kept the screens curved. The technology has material within each pixel that generates light, making it suitable for flexible screens than LCDs, which would require both a flexible screen and a backlight.

‘Invisible Glass’ to eliminate glares on the screen

A development that could bring in a change for all tablet and mobile devices, the ‘Invisible Glass’ is here. Developed by Nippon Electric Glass Co. Ltd, the company has been successful in reducing the reflection of light by placing a coating of anti-reflection film on both sides of the ‘Invisible Glass’. Normally 92% of incoming light passes through the glass and rest 8% is reflected on the glass. But now with this film on the glass only 0.1% of light is reflected.
There is a layer of about 30 films or more on both the side of the glass and the thickness of each film can be measured only in increments of nanometers. If this glass is released in the market commercially, then it would be a great move for tablets, laptops and mobile phone manufacturers. It will also help users to use their devices in broad daylight.

RIM sets up surveillance facility in Mumbai

The Indian Government had said last year, that it will shut down BlackBerry encrypted email and instant messaging services because it couldn't wiretap them. The government had asked RIM to come up with some solutions. Various deadlines were given and were not met until now.
Research In Motion has now set up a facility in Mumbai that is said to help the Indian government to carry out lawful surveillance of its BlackBerry services. The Mumbai facility offers lawful intercept requests for consumer services including the BlackBerry Messenger chat service. However there still isn’t any method to intercept and decode BlackBerry enterprise email, which is used by corporate customers and features a higher level of encryption than consumer email and instant messaging. BlackBerry has repeatedly said it doesn't have the keys to unlock enterprise email messages.
Hopefully the Government will have some gain some trust and will allow RIM to continue providing its services in the country.
