Google Translate iPhone App updated, supports more Indian Languages

Google has updated its Google Translate for iPhone app and has added new alpha languages which include Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. These are still experimental alpha languages and you can expect translations to be less fluent and include many more untranslated words.
With this the number of languages supported by the app has now increased to a total of 63 languages.

The updated also enables the ability to view dictionary results for single words and to display romanizations for the new added languages. So even if you can’t read the script the words are written in, you can still take a shot at reading the translation.

Nokia Maps for Nokia WP devices hacked, available for all

There is nothing ‘Exclusive’ these days. Previously we saw Siri getting hacked for older iPhones and now the same has happened to Nokia Maps for Windows Phone. Nokia Maps was released for Nokia’s Lumia 710 and 800 smartphones and were to stay exclusive to them, but XDA Developers managed to get their hands on the XAP file (which is basically the installation package) and made it available over here.
If you have an unlocked Windows Phone, either by official Microsoft dev-unlock or ChevronWP7 Labs, you can sideload the application on your non-Nokia Windows Phone. Other reports also suggest that Nokia Maps will be available for all WP devices but at a later stage.

With Nokia Maps users can search for local directions and Nokia provides smart routes for walking, driving and public transport. The app will also surface places to see, eat and highlights of local areas. Recently the exclusive to Nokia devices navigation software, Nokia Drive was also hacked and made available for all Windows Phone devices.

Adobe to focus on HTML5, stops Flash for Mobile development

Adobe has announced and has made it official that it will not be investing development in Flash for mobile devices. The company will now focus on the development of HTML5 as it is supported by many platforms and also will be helping Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores.
This is a major step taken by the company as the long running feud between Apple and Adobe will finally end with Adobe agreeing with Apple’s ideas.

Adobe has also said that they will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations following the upcoming release of Flash Player 11.1 for Android and BlackBerry PlayBook. However; they will continue to provide critical bug fixes and security updates for existing device configurations and will also allow their source code licensees to continue working on and release their own implementations.

We are already working on Flash Player 12 and a new round of exciting features which we expect to again advance what is possible for delivering high definition entertainment experiences. We will continue to leverage our experience with Flash to accelerate our work with the W3C and WebKit to bring similar capabilities to HTML5 as quickly as possible, just as we have done with CSS Shaders. And, we will design new features in Flash for a smooth transition to HTML5 as the standards evolve so developers can confidently invest knowing their skills will continue to be leveraged.

Siri not coming to older iPhones, officially

We have seen how hackers have managed to port Siri, the personal voice assistant from iPhone 4S to older version of iPhone, but in an official statement Apple said that Siri will remain exclusive to iPhone 4S and will not be available to other older versions of iPhones, at least in the near future.
A developer Michael Steeber had in a query asked Apple about a possible special Siri-enabled iOS build for iPod touch and iPhone 4 owners, to which apple responded, “Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices.” So now this may come as disappointment to all the old iPhone users but there are always the friendly hackers who work harder to bring these exclusive features to all users. We also hope that Apple changes its mind and brings this now-popular feature to all users soon.

HTC may not be the first vendor to adopt Tegra 3 for its smartphones

Two days ago we saw some leaked information about HTC Edge which will be HTC’s first device to run on Nvidia’s Tegra 3 processor, but if you were thinking that it would be the first Smartphone to run on the advanced CPU, just like Transformer Prime will be in tablets then you may be wrong.
According to reports, HTC Edge may not be the first device to run the Tegra 3 CPU as Motorola, Samsung and LG have already adopted Tegra 3 for future smartphones.

Nvidia had yesterday announced the Tegra 3 processor, bringing PC-class performance levels, claiming better battery life and improved mobile experiences to tablets and phones. The Tegra 3 processor is said to provide up to three times the graphics performance of Tegra 2, and up to 61% lower power consumption, translating to 12 hours of battery life for HD video playback.

Google to cut Gmail App support for BlackBerry

Come November 22nd and Google will end all its support to the Gmail app for BlackBerry smartphones. The reason behind this is unknown but it may be that Google failed to reach users through BlackBerry.
Google also says that over the past year, it has focused all efforts on building a great Gmail experience in the mobile browser and will continue investing in this area. Users who already have the app installed may continue to use the app but it will not be supported by Google and will not be available for download from November 22.

Tata DOCOMO online recharge : Pay by your current Mobile Balance

Many operators allow their subscribers to get their Mobile recharged with Special recharges using their existing balance. Subscribers can do so by entering relevant USSD code for the recharge they want.What if you don't know the USSD code? Tata DOCOMO has made Special recharges and 3G recharges simpler by allowing its subscribers to recharge using their existing balance by visiting their website. On its website tatadocomo.com it offers an option 'Pay by your current Mobile Balance'. Once you select that option you will receive an SMS with a unique code in it, enter the unique code on tatadocomo.com and that's it you are done.
Alternatively you can search for USSD codes online but that is more time consuming and I won't prefer that.

An iPhone 4 case that makes it a Dual-SIM handset

A new case/device has been launched by the makers of the Peel iPod phone adapter called the Vooma Peel PG92. This case, when attached a jailbroken iPhone 4 or 4S adds dual SIM capabilities to it. The device also has a back-up battery that can charge your phone.
All you need to do is attach the case, download the Vooma app, and using that app you can control the phone inside the case to make calls using the SIM card inserted in the case. The app and its UI has been customised to look just like the original iOS UI.
