Last we heard of the Symbian Carla update was back in November where a presentation leaked Nokia’s plans for its upcoming Symbian updates.
After Belle we might see Carla walk by. Till now only the name has been confirmed, we don’t have much info as to what kind of changes will the update bring except new surround sound support, changes regarding NFC and new widgets. While it’s good to know that Nokia is still planning Symbian’s future, and has not given up on it, it is sad that the updates and the UI are still lagging way behind.

Marko Ahtisaari, the Executive Vice President of Design at Nokia has in an interview to The Guardian revealed that the future Nokia Lumia device which may arrive in November this year may finally get some NFC (Near Field Communication) love and also wireless charging.

We all already know how much Nokia loves NFC and now that it has bonded with Windows Phone OS, we could soon see future WP device with either the Tango or Apollo update supporting the NFC magic. Ahtisaari also said that it may also be possible to see wireless charging in the next-gen Lumia devices. Wireless charging is not new and already exists on Palm Pre and the HP Touchpad but bringing it over to the Nokia Lumia devices will surely be a treat for users.

Apple’s iPhone is becoming a heated topic once again. And it is getting exciting too. It seems Apple’s next iPhone might feature Near-fields-connectivity (NFC) in a big way. NFC has been around for sometime now. Everyone from Samsung to Nokia has grappled with it and even come up with services like Nokia Money, but without any success to talk of. While services like Nokia money have failed to woo people to graduate to NFC, it’s Apple turn to come up NFC based solutions and make NFC based payments popular.
