Yes, this may be a strategy to save itself from extinction and we did report about his earlier this month. Now the new RIM CEO, Thorsten Heins, has agreed that if needed he would license the company's upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS to other OEMs.

A report in Globe and Mail states Heins as, "Referring to other handset manufacturers using Android that have seen poor financial results as Google's Android spreads, Mr. Heins said that it makes sense for the company to continue to develop its own software platform. But he stressed that he would be open to talking with other handset makers about licensing RIM's own QNX-based BlackBerry 10 software."

We have seen it in sci-fi flicks. Just flick your card and you are through the airport counter. But what's seemed like a fantasy till now could finally become true. You could just swipe your mobile and use it as a boarding pass, security pass etc.

Most of us have heard about mobile boarding passes. Some of us have even tried them. And faced a lot of issues! But with NFC that might be something of the past. No longer you will have to rely on your mobile phone's network or paper receipts that consume both time and money.

There's one thing that you can count on Sony's smartphones for. And that's good cameras. After providing us with high-grade camera phones such as the Arc, now, Sony is trying to better themselves by fitting in bigger cameras but while mantaning the form factor.

The company has gone pack to the manufacturing table and designed a back-illuminated CMOS. How this works is, Sony puts a pixel-sensor on a supporting circuit, which is then mounted on a supporting substrate. Both are to be produced separately and layered without any additional material, adding to the camera capability without adding to the form.

The Lumia 800 saw one of the biggest advertising and promotion methods taken by Nokia, well at least in India. While these might have boosted the sales, reports are coming in that Nokia might have already shipped 1 million Lumia 800 handset units globally in the last three months of 2011.

If this estimate is true, this would mean that Nokia clearly proved a number of analysts who had predicted that Nokia will only manage to ship half a million units before 2012 begins.

Remember the days, when you would get to know handsets that you never saw in India. While we have become a smartphone superpower in the past 5 years, we are still left devoid sometimes when it comes to handset. It actually feels like some companies still treat us like third-world citizens, despite being one of the world's biggest markets.

While companies do have their own reasons for doing so, we still hate it. Reasons behind this are many. Firstly, sometimes carriers choose t have exclusive rights to a phone, in which case, we do not loathe the manufacturer. Secondly, some technologies haven't yet made it here such as 4G and LTE, we totally loath the government for that. Finally, comes the part where we rant about the manufacturers.
