Ubuntu for Android will make your PC and Android smartphone the best of friends

One thing we forever have expected from phones and never got is PC-like functionality. Till date, the world still relies upon 3 devices – tablets, PCs and smartphones. But everything is set to change with Ubuntu for Android coming into the picture. Ubuntu, it is claimed, will bring PC-like functionality for Androids.

Linux developer Canonical explains how this will work. Ubuntu for Android will use the same kernel for Android smartphones as it uses for PCs. With every phone nowadays vouching for dual-core CPUs in excess of 1 GHz, this doesn’t seem a distant dream too. By changing smartphones into PCs, it is possible that the need for actual PCs might even dissipate.

Nokia Carla OS arriving Q3, will support all Symbian^3 devices, N8 successor not the last Symbian device

So good news coming in for all Nokia and Symbian lovers as a recent leak from a recent developer’s conference in Mexico goes on to point out that we’ll surely be seeing Nokia Carla arriving on our device. Previously there were rumours that Nokia is abandoning all future developments on Symbian platform.

But then we saw a leak confirming that developers are already testing Carla on certain devices and reporting bugs. So now we expect the Nokia Carla update to reach us in Q3 2012 when the first bunch of device running Carla will hit shelves. Before this we expect the second-gen Belle smartphones, including Nokia 603, 700 and 701 to start shipping with Carla over them. Carla is expected to arrive by late 2012-early 2013.

Panasonic unveils the Eluga, a Waterproof Android Smartphone

Back in November Panasonic had revealed its plans to enter the European market with new smartphones and the company has kept on the promise and announced the Panasonic Eluga, which is an Android powered smartphone.

The weirdly named Eluga packs in nice bunch of specs. Coming in first is the 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor coupled with a 1 GB of RAM. Eluga sports a 4.3 inch OLED display with a qHD 960 x 530 pixels resolution.

LG makes the Optimus 3D MAX official at the MWC 2012

After a number of rumours and leaks, LG Electronics has finally unveiled the Optimus 3D Max, successor to the Optimus 3D, at the 2012 Mobile World Congress (MWC). The handset boasts glasses free 3D content and now has a better and expanded 3D ecosystem.

The smartphone has both 2D and 3D mode on a bright 4.3 inch display and also has an enhanced 3D Converter which can be used toggle between 2D and 3D thanks to a 3D Hot Key mounted on the side of the phone. LG also plans to continue expanding video contents, applications and games optimized for the 3D Converter available from the 3D Zone at LG SmartWorld.

ZTE launches Tegra 2 and Icera modem powered Mimosa X

ZTE in collaboration with NVIDIA have launched the Mimosa X which is the first smartphone which is powered by a Tegra 2 processor and NVIDIA’s Icera HSPA+ modem.

The Mimosa X is a 4.3 inch display with pixel resolution of 960 x 540. There is a 5 MP camera at the rear and the front camera for video calling. The device is to ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and features Dolby sound. ZTE Mimosa X features DLNA and GeForce graphics processing unit (GPU), there is 4 GB of internal storage on the Mimosa X which can be expandable by microSD card.

Nokia loves to tease us and this time around the Finnish giant has posted a video over its YouTube channel that tell us that the company will be showcasing the Nokia ‘PureView’ camera smartphone at the upcoming MWC

LG explains new design strategy, announces L-styled Optimus L3, L5 and L7 Android smartphones

It is raining devices from LG’s side. The Korean giant is not ready to stop with the announcement of Optimus Vu and Optimus LTE Tag in the past two days and has today announced three more smartphones the Optimus L3, L5 and L7 which belong to a new L-Style design strategy adopted by the company.

Ahead of MWC, Samsung announces Galaxy Ace 2 and Galaxy Mini 2

Samsung had earlier announced that it will not be launching the Galaxy S III at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) and has instead announced two new additions to the Galaxy family, the Galaxy Ace 2 and the Galaxy Mini 2 both being the successors to Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Mini with upgraded specs.

The Galaxy Ace 2 has a 3.8 inch WVGA Display, is powered on an 800MHz processor with 768MB RAM, runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS supported by Samsung’s TouchWiz UI 4.0. It has a 5 MP auto focus shooter at the rear with Flash and supports HD video recording at 720p. There is also a VGA front camera for Video calls. The Ace 2 will come with 4 GB internal memory which is expandable to 32 GB with microSD card. It also has HSDPA support upto 14.4 Mbps, plus Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi Direct support, ChatON, Music Hub and Game Hub. It is powered by a 1500 mAh battery.

Mario Romero, a Post Doctoral fellow at the school of interactive computing, Georgia Tech says, “Research has shown that chorded, or gesture-based, texting is a viable solution for eyes-free written communication in the future, making obsolete the need for users to look at their devices while inputting text on them.”
