Reliance Industries to buy 95% stake in Infotel Broadband

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire a substantial stake in Infotel Broadband Services (P) Ltd, which has emerged as a successful bidder in all the 22 circles of the auction for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) Spectrum conducted by the DoT. RIL will invest about Rs 4,800 crore by way of subscription to fresh equity capital at par to be issued by Infotel Broadband. Post this investment, RIL will own 95% of the equity and Infotel Broadband will be a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited.RIL plans to create world class state- of-the-art technology using an asset light RIL plans to create world class state- of-the-art technology using an asset light technology players, service providers, infrastructure providers, application developers, device manufacturers and others to leapfrog India to the 4G revolution.
RIL will comply with the non-compete and trademark agreements entered into at the time of corporate demerger and subsequent modifications made last month.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited said “We see this as the next wave of value creation opportunity in the wireless broadband space. We believe this will pole-vault India’s economy into the digital world at an accelerated pace while creating next generation tools that will enhance productivity and create world-class consumer experiences.”

Bharti Airtel has entered into an exclusive partnership with Encyclopaedia Britannica. The partnership will allow Bharti Airtel to offer a two year free subscription, worth Rs.6575 to Britannica online (www.britannica.com, www.eb.com) for all its Broadband users.K. Airtel doubles speed for Broadband customers at no extra cost

Airtel has upgraded broadband speeds of all its existing customers (on 64, 128, 256 Kbps) to a minimum of 512 Kbps. Further, customers currently on 512 Kbps plans and 1mbps plans will have their speeds doubled to 1Mbps and 2Mbps respectively. The upgrades come at no extra cost to existing customers and will be completed by June 2010 pan India. Airtel also announced the launch of ‘Impatience Plans’ which offers 4 Mbps speed plans at Rs. 899/month. .The Impatience Plans will be available in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore. As part of the Impatience Plan offerings, customers can either avail an Unlimited Data Transfer Plan OR opt for a Continous Hi Speed Plan-details as below.

Airtel Broadband users can now enjoy a ‘buffer-free’ live cricket viewing experience on www.youtube.com/ipl from 12th March – 25th April as Airtel has provided a free updgrade to a speed of 2 Mbps. Airtel, the official Broad Sponsor of Cricket on Youtube for IPL 2010, took this step so that more and more People watch such a major event online.This limited period offer is available only for the duration of the IPL on www.youtube.com/ipl. For any other sites, the customer will continue to surf and download as per the speed plan that they have opted for. Upgraded speed of 2 Mbps applicable only for live cricket streaming on youtube.com/ipl page and not for other YouTube content.

BSNL reduces tariff of EVDO Unlimited Postpaid Plan

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has announced promotional tariff reduction for its EVDO postpaid unlimited plan. Earlier BSNL EVDO users who were using unlmited were paying Rs. 999 per month to avail unlmited download/upload but under this promotional offer all the existing customers and new customers can get the unlimited plan at Rs. 750 per month. Existing customers of BSNL of are using any plan other than unlimited plan can switch to unlimited plan to avail reduced tariff. BSNL introduced fastest Broadband in India

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has introduced High Speed Broadband with speeds up to 24 Mbps. This high speed broadband is made available with Very high speed Digital Subscriber Loop (VDSL) Technology. 16Mbps & 24 Mbps broadband is made available across the country. This service is available at Limited Usage tariff plans with monthly charges of Rs.4999 for speeds up to 16 Mbps and Rs.9999 for speeds up to 24 Mbps. High speed broadband is available to customers which are close to broadband exchange nodes.While 24 Mbps broadband will be available to customers up to around 500 meter cable route distance from the exchange, 16 Mbps broadband is available to customers up to around 1 Km. from the exchange.BSNL is already offering broadband service with speeds ranging from 256 kbps up to 8 Mbps. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) today announced free upgradation of Broadband Speed on all its Unlimited Broadband Tariff plan free of cost for its customers in Mumbai.Keeping plan charges same, MTNL increased broadband speed, Now subscribers of Unlimited Plan 599 users will be eligible for the 512 Kbps instead of its earlier speed of 256kbps, while the DSL Unlimited 749 plan, DSL Unlimited 999 and DSL Unlimited Games Plans users will get 752kbps, 1 Mbps and 1.152 Mbps respectively the faster broadband speed enhancements at the existing rates.
