So an internal document released by RIM has stated that some BlackBerry Bold 9900 users have been facing a little ‘design issue’ with their 9900. The issue is regarding the holster that BlackBerry has supplied with the device and which in turn is affecting the keys of the device and ‘knocked off’ keys.

But now that RIM is aware of the problem, the Canadian company has decided to step in and address the issue. RIM has noted that the issue is only arising with the 9900’s those where manufactured before November 3, 2011. After which the company has changed the holster design itself.

Compared to the previous picture that leaked, this new designed device looks much like a mini BlackBerry PlayBook, having rounded edges as compared to the sharp edges that appeared in November.

Thanks to a leaked roadmap, we now have some interesting information about RIM’s plans for the years 2012 and 2013. A chart shows how RIM intends to launch new devices including the PlayBook 3G (FINALLY !), new curve series devices and addition of new colours to already existing devices. Other plans include the release BlackBerry OS 7.1, introduction of Wi-Fi media server sharing and more.

The only sad part here is that RIM’s BlackBerry OS 10 will be launching pretty late. Meaning that the codenamed device ‘London’ will be delayed as well. Going by the roadmap, we might see the new BB 10 OS device in the third quarter of 2013 (September, October, November).

Yes, this may be a strategy to save itself from extinction and we did report about his earlier this month. Now the new RIM CEO, Thorsten Heins, has agreed that if needed he would license the company's upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS to other OEMs.

A report in Globe and Mail states Heins as, "Referring to other handset manufacturers using Android that have seen poor financial results as Google's Android spreads, Mr. Heins said that it makes sense for the company to continue to develop its own software platform. But he stressed that he would be open to talking with other handset makers about licensing RIM's own QNX-based BlackBerry 10 software."

It is an announcement that has been due since long. The joint-CEOs of BlackBerry parent company Research in Motion (RIM) have announced their resignation and have named Thorsten Heins as CEO.

"There comes a time in the growth of every successful company when the founders recognize the need to pass the baton to new leadership. Jim and I went to the Board and told them that we thought that time was now. With BlackBerry 7 now out, PlayBook 2.0 shipping in February and BlackBerry 10 expected to ship later this year, the company is entering a new phase, and we felt it was time for a new leader to take it through that phase and beyond. Jim, the Board and I all agreed that leader should be Thorsten Heins."

News has been creeping around that Korean giant Samsung is planning to buy RIM, or rightly a part of RIM in the near future. A source had earlier claimed that RIM co-chief executive Jim Balsillie was meeting with companies interested in either licensing its software or buying a part or all of RIM and the first vendor in line is Samsung.

Giving various reasons like BBM integration into its various ecosystems (Android, bada, Windows Phone) and also enterprise integration, assumptions have been made that RIM might be taken over by Samsung.

Well yes, RIM is on a slow poison and dying with each and every passing day. With stock prices crashing down to 70% of face value, no good devices to keep people held, same OS for so long and now rumours that Co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie may step down from the board. Nothing's going right for RIM. Also BlackBerry 10 devices arriving (if any) only during late 2012, RIM is finding it difficult to hold on.

And it seems that RIM may have finally found a solution to keep itself alive and that is to license BlackBerry 10 OS to other OEMs so that it has at least some source of income. All this comes into light as Jefferies & Co.'s Peter Misek wrote to his investors stating as below.

Remember the BlackBerry 10 running Milan which was rumoured to have a 4.2 inch touchscreen with a full QWERTY physical keyboard? Well rumours are doing the rounds suggesting that RIM has decided to finally scrap the device for some unknown reason.

Many reasons can be attributed behind the scrapping of the device. The device may have faced hardware issues which could have not been possible to solve given the huge size of the device. Also the next-gen OS, BlackBerry 10 may not have been suiting well with the touch and type format.
