Swype for Symbian version (v1.0.16481) released

There is some good news coming in for all you Symbian users out there as a newer version of Swype (v1.0.16481) is expected to arrive for Symbian on an S60 5th edition phone.A lot of changes has been made in this version as compared to the earlier versions and is currently under testing at Nokia’s Ovi Store. A prominent change will be seen in the appearance of the Copy and Paste feature as well as the Editing Layer in the Settings menu. In addition to this, it will support new language packs to be used on any device running Swype.
After the update the language pack now consists of languages such as:

Danish
Dutch
Englishswy
Finnish
French (Canadian)
French (European)

Raising the bar of entertainment, Nokia launches ‘Big Screen’, a new media player providing Nokia users with home entertainment by converting their smartphones into portable media hubs. Using the HDMI output port one can view the media content on a compatible TV (display device ) once a successful connection has been established with their smartphone. Moreover, one can set up a Bluetooth controller (as a remote) using the Bluetooth technology of their smartphone devices thus making the browsing experience much easier. The Nokia Big Screen has succeeded in transforming the Nokia N8 into a portable media hub and is now planning to be released for the Nokia E7 as well.
So what’s on offer??
The Nokia Big Screen will now enable users to showcase their photos and videos in HD and at the same time listen to music from their phone or an audio system. Users can now view the photos as a slideshow (by changing the direction left/right arrow keys). In addition to this , there is also a screensaver that gets activated after a minute’s idle time to protect the TV. The device provides you mobility and guarantees entertainment wherever you go.
So for those of whom “size does matter”, the Nokia Big Screen is surely up for grabs.

Opera Software releases teaser video of Opera for tablets

Opera Software will be prevewing its browser for tablets and netbooks at CES 2011. Opera, before the preview at CES 2011, released a teaser video in which its new browser is shown running on an android tablet, its capabilities include smooth panning and zooming.

Bug found in default android messaging application

A bug has been found in the android’s native texting application, this bug has been going on since march and google has not taken any steps to fix this problem. A report of this bug was recorded on the Google’s Nexus one forum on March 17 and there have been many updates since then but still users are still complaining about this bug.This error occurs when you have more than 3-4 separate text messaging conversations are going on and the messaging application gets confused and sends the message to the wrong person. Like if you are texting to A,B and C and continuously you have been opening the notification bar to view the text and reply and you press the back button to A and then go back and reply to B and then to C and now when you press back and go to reply to A the messaging application will automatically send the message to contact B or C.
You might not have noticed this bug because you open the messages using the messaging application, you close every conversation using the back button and don’t let it work on top of one another, or you might have avoided it.
I recreated this Bug in this way:
I opened a text directly from the notification bar and i went to the conversation with that contact, then I hit the home button to get back to the home screen, I repeated this four times so now there are 4 contacts now open and I am texting to all of them simultaneously without hitting back and closing the conversation. Lets say I did this texting procedures a few times and have send more than 5-6 messages to each of the 4 contacts in this order, contact 1, me , contact 2, me, contact 3, me, contact 4, me, etc. and now as soon as i read the message of contact 3 again and reply and then hit back to reply to the message of contact 4, now you are back to the conversation list and select the 4th contact you write and send the message but what can actually happen is that your message will be sent to contact 1 because there is a bug. This is a major issue right now and I guess Google should look into it and solve it as soon as possible.

I have also used the Go Launcher which is another beautiful launcher and if you have go launcher you don’t need to use a task killer as there is an option in the app drawer, but just a week back during Christmas ADW Launcher EX was launched and my twitter timeline exploded with mentions of this application and how beautiful it is. So I wanted to check how this application was and I bought it and have been using it for about 5 days and I really got to say that it is the best home replacement application out there. Firefox 4 beta for mobile Launched for Android and Maemo

Long back you had heard about the beta Firefox browser called as Fennec which was not very popular and was in a beta stage but now Mozilla has officially launched its beta browser for all the Android and Maemo users. This is just a beta release and will not perform to the full extent. If you come across some errors, lags or bugs you can report it to Mozilla. A number of changes has been made due to the feedbacks received from the earlier beta programs. Now you will also be able to save the websites as PDFs to read later.
All Android users will be able to download the Firefox 4 Beta browser from the Android market for free. Alternatively it can be downloaded from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/m/beta
Will this iteration of the Firefox beta program be a success? That’s the question which remains to be answered.
SPB Mobile Shell for Android enters Private beta stage

Many remember SPB Shell as the overlay UI that made windows mobile much better and easier to use, providing some great features and eyecandy. It was released for Symbian UI and had received a positive response. SPB has been working hard to bring the UI to Android platform. If you have been waiting to get your hands on this software, you can sign up for beta testing. SPB has moved thisto beta but still, the beta testing is allowed by signing up for it, after which invitation will be sent to test the application. The sign up form can be filled from here.

Google Maps for Android goes 3D

The much awaited update for the Google maps, Android version is here. Now the Google Maps 5 (GM5) has 3D maps and offline navigation. 3D maps are not available in all countries yet, but its a big leap forward. Its available only in about 100+ city as of now. But it makes all other map applications look nooby. All you have to do is to swipe two fingers from top to bottom of the maps, and voila: 3D maps.The zooming and scrolling is much smoother, thanks to the vector maps. The compass mode is another notable feature. Tapping on the compass button activates this mode and interfaces the maps with the digital compass to give real time orientation and direction in 3D.
Offline navigation is a welcome feature. Imagine you are planning a trekking trip and you don't get mobile or wi-fi signals in the location, but if your maps are already cached, the navigation still works and also guides you appropriately. You will need Android 1.6 or higher to experience GM5. But 2.0+ is recommended. The experience is supported fully in a few devices and partially in many devices. Check the official google maps site for more details on compatibility and feature availability at your region.

Nimbuzz 2.0.4 released, now make HD calls from iPhones

Nimbuzz 2.0.4 is now available for download for the iPhone and iTouch users. The new version supports HD voice call quality, offline mode, the contact list and profile layout has been changed, multiple contacts sorting options.
The new update allows the users to make HD quality calls to other Nimbuzz users who use the iPhone or the iTouch. The Nimbuzz servers now doesn’t route calls through the servers, it makes direct connection between the two mobile devices.
Nimbuzz auto detects 3G and WiFi strength and then displays a HD indicator in the calling screen.
Now the users can also ‘go offline’ mode from their Nimbuzz application which enable the users to use Nimbuzz without appearing online. Visa launches iPhone App

Visa, the credit card major launched their app for the iPhone recently. The app is available for free in iTunes Store [link] and allows users to access over 50 merchant offers Visa has partnered with in the United States, helping them save money on every-day purchases. These include retails like Planet Hollywood and Hardrock cafe which will automatically deliver offers and other promotions directly to Visa's customers through the iPhone app.
The app also has a Locator on it, which with the help of GPS, shows you the nearest ATM on your map while you're in need of money and also the shops nearby where you could possibly get one of your exclusive offers redeemed.
"Merchants are looking for new and more efficient ways to reach customers, while budget-conscious consumers expect a more rewarding and convenient shopping experience," said Bill Gajda, Head of Mobile at Visa Inc. "The Visa Mobile application meets the needs of both merchants and consumer and brings one of the most trusted brands in payments to the iPhone."
The application's functionality isn't that great right now, but it indeed does mark the beginning of a mobile era where every banking/payment chains are going the Smartphone way.
